Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation

...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints....
Ephesians 1:17-18

Paul prayed an amazing prayer for the Ephesian church. Prayer has to be inspired; it is spoken from the heart. The word prayer means “communion or oneness.” When we enter into God’s presence to pray, it should not be a one-way communication. It takes two people to communicate. If you are the one always talking, then how can God speak to you about what He wants to do with your life?

If you want to learn how to pray, listen to Paul’s prayer. He teaches you how to pray for very specific reasons. Paul prayed for Christians that they might possess the spirit of wisdom and revelation. This means, through prayer, Christians can possess the truth and knowledge of God. It becomes possible for them to know God more intimately, and He will uncover things they never understood before.

It also means Christians can pray to God, and He will reveal His call on their lives. Christians can be enlightened. Through prayer, they are made aware of what God wants them to do; their eyes as well as their hearts are opened to understand. Christians are not just to sit in church. God equips them for whatever He wants them to do. He gives believers the wisdom and knowledge to accomplish the task.

Prayer also helps us to know the hope of God in our calling, the certainty of His glorious riches––our eternal inheritance––salvation. Knowing that God loves you and has called you to be a man or woman of God, what kind of Christian should you be? You need to become obedient to what God has spoken to you.

Prayer is the open admission that without Christ we can do nothing. And prayer is the turning away from ourselves to God in the confidence that He will provide the help we need. Prayer humbles us as needy and exalts God as wealthy.
