Confidence in the Law

Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God, and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.
Romans 2:17-20

This is one of the greatest statements God made to the Jews and, I believe, the Gentiles. God has shown that outwardly moral people, whether Jew or Gentile will stand condemned in judgment before Him. A Jew may ask, “Why am I guilty when I have the Law of God? I have studied the Torah and the prophets!” Even though they are God’s covenant people, their Jewish heritage will not save them. Neither will their knowledge or ceremonies––feast days. These things will never save them.

The law makes all of us guilty; it wakes us up to the knowledge that we are all sinners. It is only by faith that we become children of God (Galatians 3:24-26). Christians depend on the grace of God for their salvation (Ephesians 2:8). There are people who sit in church on Sunday who feel they are saved, but if nothing has changed in their lives, they are just religious people who are deceived. Learn the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23). Those truly touched by God’s Word are born again by God’s Holy Spirit. They are fruitful people. God makes a distinction.

Our children are growing up in a religious world of chaos. Any type of religion is bound by tradition and laws which they possess. Many religions will say they are the way, and this can bring confusion to a person’s heart. Jesus narrowed the way to heaven when He said: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6).

People need to be thinkers. In the 1600’s - 1800’s, people could debate logically and spiritually. They wrote amazing spiritual truths and doctrine. They had no distractions. It is hard to study theology––all the major doctrines. The book of Romans teaches doctrine; it causes us to think!

You may think you can live fine without Christ, but you cannot afford to die without Him.
