Exchanging Truth for Lies

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Romans 1:24-25

God brought another indictment against these wicked people because they were extremely immoral. Men and women were not willing or wanting to do what was right. God gave them up to their own lusts because they had refused to acknowledge Him. At a certain point in time, God gave them up. It is as if God said to them, “Have it your own way! I already warned you, but you do not want to listen to me.” This was a terrible consequence.

It is important to understand that there was a noticeable exchange in the lives of these people. They had exchanged the truth for a lie. Who is the liar? Satan. He is called the “father of lies.” When Jesus spoke to the Pharisees, he knew murder was in their hearts. They wanted to kill Jesus. He revealed their hearts to them:

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44).

When people listen to Satan’s lies, they become deceived. Think of how many people, through his lies, have become convinced of Darwinism or the different occults like Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witnesses. Many people believe that by bowing down and praying to an idol they are going to receive help––not so.

How many Christians are guilty of telling a lie? That should not be. Always speak truth to one another.

Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.
~Ephesians 4:25~
