Heirs of God through Christ

...that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Galatians 4:5-7

Paul stated that because of Jesus Christ’s redemption of mankind from the curse of the Law, which gave a sentence of death, we have now become the sons of God. The word sons means we have sonship. The moment we accept Christ, we are adopted through a new birth. The Holy Spirit dwells and abides in our hearts. He teaches us to pray by groaning and crying out, “Abba, Father!” These are words of endearment. Christians can cry out to God and say, “Daddy.” They never need to feel distant from God; they belong to Him as sons or daughters.

Through Christ, we belong to the family of God. We are spiritual Jews because of God’s salvation given to us by Jesus Christ. Any Jew is our brother or sister. When Jesus came and died, resurrected on the third day, and ascended to heaven, He did not leave us as orphans. He gave us the Holy Spirit. He manifests God’s work in our lives. The Holy Spirit calls, comforts and convicts us.

We are no longer a slave––but a son. A slave has no rights, but as a child of God, we have become heirs. As a son or daughter of God, we have the privilege of all God’s blessings––they are all ours. In prayer, we can come to God’s throne room at any time, (Hebrews 4:16), and when we die, we shall spend all eternity with our Father (John 3:16).

Yet it breaks my heart, because there are so many people who will spend all eternity in darkness. As Christians, we need to pray daily for other people to come and know the Lord.

Think of what you are, you Christians. You are God’s children; you are joint heirs with Christ. The ‘many mansions’ are for you; the palms and harps of the glorified are for you. You have a share in all that Christ has and is and shall be.
