God Sent His Son

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law to redeem those who were under the law….
Galatians 4:4

In the fullness of time, God sent His Only Begotten Son, born of a woman, a virgin by the name of Mary. Understand, Joseph had nothing to do with Jesus’ miraculous conception. “In the fullness of time” means God has a divine time for everything according to His will. When Jesus left the glory of eternity to come to earth, He remained 100% God and became 100% man (Philippians 2:5-7). He was born a Jew and subjected Himself to the law of Roman rule. Yet Jesus was born free, and under the sentence of death––crucifixion––He set us free!

In the Old Testament, an animal sacrifice would be used as an atonement for sin. Yet it was only a covering for sin. When Jesus Christ came, He fulfilled the Law, gave us a life of grace and liberty, and the promise of eternal life: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). This is incredible!

How we thank God that Jesus Christ was sent by the Father to fulfill the Law, because the Law condemned us, and gave us the sentence of death. Unless Jesus came and died for us, we would never have been able to be saved. Why did Jesus die? He loved you and me so much.

Imagine, Jesus was born when Rome was conquering and ruling the known world. The Roman Empire built incredible roads that connected cities, towns and military bases. It was God’s perfect, divine time because these roads allowed the Gospel of Salvation to be taken all over Europe. God had His appointed time for Jesus’ birth, death and Resurrection. God also has an appointed time for Jesus’ return.

Think about your own personal life. God is in control of the world, and we are here in this period of history “for such a time as this.”

On Christ, and what he has done, my soul hangs for time and eternity. And if your soul also hangs there, it will be saved as surely as mine shall be.
