The Name of the LORD

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:45-47

Notice, David stood up to Goliath’s blasphemous insults––he had gone too far. Boldly, David shouted back, “I come to you in the name of the Lordof hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied….” David stood for God as if to say, “Do not talk about my God, or I will break your teeth!”David had the most powerful God on his side. His power was matchless––the giant’s weaponry had no chance.

Then David said, “…for  the battle is the Lord’s.” David did not go in his own strength. God was the one who would take care of this battle. David was so enthusiastic––I love this!

Do you understand the power and strength of God’s mighty name? In His name we have salvation. The Apostle Paul stated: For “whosoever calls onthe name of the Lord shall be saved”(Romans 10:13). Peter also taught:

“…by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole…  Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:10, 12).

Only those who have repented of their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior are safe from eternal judgment. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ only. Have you called on the name of the Lord for your salvation?

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe.
~Proverbs 18:10~
