Peace Through God

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Romans 5:1-2

Paul spoke of sinners having peace with God. As they come to the Cross to receive forgiveness for their sins, Christ’s blood has atoned for their sins, and they have gained peace with God. I have noticed, many Christians still do not have the peace of God. Knowing God is in control of all things is an important key to our tranquility. Possessing the peace of God enables us to serve the Lord with joy.

Yet how many Christians still suffer constantly with thoughts of guilt and condemnation? The devil beats them up like mad. He condemns them to the point where some people become mentally unstable, thinking they have lost their salvation. Paul addressed this problem in Romans 8:1. Christians are set free from guilt and condemnation. Jesus came to set us free (John 8:36).

I once knew a girl who became a beauty queen, but she struggled with guilt and condemnation; and, in the end, she was committed to a mental ward. She became a completely different person because of what the enemy had done to her mind. I can tell you story after story of people who did not fully surrender or submit their whole will to the Lord Jesus Christ.

I have seen other people end up this way. I sit back and ask myself, What happened to them? I believe they failed to cling and trust the truth found in the Word of God, and their minds became confused. The truth will set them free to live the life Christ has planned for them. Satan tries to rob them of God’s plans. Jesus said: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

When we experience the true peace of God, then we can rejoice in the grace of God––His unmerited favor.

I hear the words of love, I gaze upon the blood, I see the mighty sacrifice, and I have peace with God.
