Evil Plans Failed
Now the days had not expired; therefore David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. And David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full count to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as a wife.
1 Samuel 18:26-28
David fulfilled King Saul’s request. He actually went over and above the 100 Philistines Saul required killed. David killed 200 Philistines! Saul had hoped the Philistines would have killed David. Imagine the look on his face when he saw David alive! Now Saul was stuck with his decision to give Michal to be David’s wife. I am sure he did so reluctantly. Yet again, Saul’s evil plans failed. He must have been so frustrated.
Who was working behind the scenes to protect David? God! Time and time again, the Lord watched over him. David knew this and wrote: I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will give you counsel and watch over you(Psalm 32:8 BSB). David loved the Lord. Throughout his life, especially during times when his enemies sought to destroy him, he always trusted in his God:
In You, O Lord, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed;
deliver me in Your righteousness. Bow down Your ear to me,
deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me. For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me. Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, for You are my strength. Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth (Psalm 31:1-5).
Like David, in your walk with God have you developed an unshakable trust? Is God your Rock, Refuge and Fortress? The enemy may secretly plan to destroy you, but trust in His deliverance! His eye is upon you to lead and guide you through this life––all of your days.
Keep my soul, and deliver me;
let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.
