Father’s Day

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5

God spoke about the family and how beautiful it was for a father to have many children. It is a blessing and not a curse. A father can mold and shape his children to become like arrows, sharp fighters against the enemy, and influential leaders in the gates. The city gates were places of prominence where judges sat to make judgment––incredible.

When a man becomes old, he realizes the blessing of having children and grandchildren. When my grandson Bjorn was young, he used to sit on my neck. I would look up at him sitting there just patting my head. I think of my three sons: Raul, Shane and Ryan. They are amazing! As they have grown, I can see God’s plan unfolding in their lives. I love all my granddaughters and grandsons––they are the next generation! God also has great plans for your children and grandchildren.

As a father, become the spiritual leader of your home. A father who fears and obeys God knows his family is in the hands of God. Psalm 128:3-4 describes the rewards of such a man: Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table…thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

In Psalm 128:6, a promise is given to the man who fears God: Yes, may you see your children’s children. How wonderful it is to live and see your grandchildren! As a father, realize days, months and years go quickly. Be aware of distractions that keep you from being a godly father. Recognize you only have one life to live. God has given valuable time to you to be a godly influence in the lives your sons, daughters, and grandchildren.

I was raised in the greatest of homes…just a really great dad, and I miss him so much…he was a good man, a real simple man…Very faithful, always loved my mom, always provided for the kids, and just a lot of fun.
