Independence Day

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: …a time of war, and a time of peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 8

Independence Day has been celebrated since July 4, 1776 to the present day. During the American Revolutionary War the British were defeated. The war was won and this great victory birthed a great a nation. America gained her independence and experienced peace. In 1941, July 4th became a federal holiday in the United States. Families celebrate the occasion with fireworks, parades and barbecues––although some parades have been altered or cancelled because of Covid-19 this year.

Spiritually speaking, many people are in sinful rebellion and at war with God. As a result, they have no peace with God. When a person has peace with God, it means they are no longer at war with Him––the war is finished. They were once enemies of the Cross, but now they have surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The arms of rebellion have been laid down. A new birth of that person happens (2 Corinthians 5:17). Now for the first time, they can experience the peace with God (Colossians 1:21-22).

Although Christians have peace with God, Satan still tries to rob, steal and kill (John 10:10), he remains the enemy of our souls. Understand, this battle for your soul continues until the day you die.

Despite this spiritual battle, do you retain your peace with God? He gives to you true tranquility in the midst of your trials. When you have God’s peace, there is no doubt or fear, no anxiety or stress in your life. During times of trial, as you pray, the Lord will speak to your heart and you will enter into a peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). God has given us His faithful promises. Has God ever failed you?

Honestly, the peace of God can only come through knowing Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Are you at war with God or at peace?

For it pleased the Father that in Him [Christ] all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
~Colossians 1:19-20~
