The Comfort of God
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort those who are in ant trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
David was going through great trails and needed God’s comfort. It was like this with Job. He was another godly man whom God allowed to suffer. In one day his trials became constant. A messenger and servants of Job came to him one after another with horrible news. His oxen and donkeys were stolen away in a raid, and his servants were killed. His sheep and servants were consumed in fire. His camels were taken in a raid, and servants killed by the sword. In a great tragedy his sons and daughters were killed when a wind caused the house to fall on top of them (Job 1:13-19).
Did you notice Job’s godly response? Job was hurting as seen in his actions; he tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground, worshiped and said: “…the Lord gave, and theLordhas taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord”(Job 1:21). God loved Job but He permitted trials in his life.
Have you ever been under immense pressure? Have you ever had an anxiety attack? When terrible situations happen in sequences, we become distressed and think, “What else can happen this week?” As believers it is important to be spiritually prepared for such things.
Sometimes we have a wrong concept of God. We question why God has allowed bad things to happen to us. God allows times of testing. He desires to teach us something through them. Trials can be an opportunity to grow in your faith. God molds our lives during difficult times.
We need to find comfort in the Lord. He will give us the answers we need. There are times when you cannot go to man; you have to go before God. Then you can share with others the comfort you have found in Him.
Let me say that for comfort, there is no thought more full of sweetness that of an eternal God engaged in Christ Jesus to His people: to love and bless and save them all…
