Freed From the Law

For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.
Romans 7:2-3

Paul spoke of our relationship with Christ as if we had entered into a marriage union with Him. Christians have a new love––a love for Jesus Christ, for the Word of God, and to witness to people. A marriage relationship is based on love and not on laws--you have to have freedom in the relationship. In a marriage, storms will come, and the feelings of love are not always there. Yet these trials and temptations will mature the marriage relationship, and it is the same in our relationship with Christ.

As sinners, they enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ; they are free—free from the Law of sin. No one can be sanctified—set apart––by the Law. The Law condemns us. In Christ, believers have a new life, a new nature, and a new Master. I like that! Christians are not the same people (2 Corinthians 5:17). Believers are not under the Law; however, that does not give them the freedom to sin. We cannot. Understand, sin will send a person into eternal punishment––hell.

God’s love and grace is the reason we came to the Cross of Christ, in repentance, to accept Him as our Lord and Savior; otherwise, we would never have responded. It is exciting to become a Christian, but we cannot trust in the excitement of our new love. What about our lows?

There is a period of time when a Christian feels good because of God’s grace and love, but there can be long, low periods when there are no feelings. The Lord desires we trust Him by faith. Christians cannot live by excitement each day; otherwise, it will be an emotional journey. It is the Word of God that feeds you spiritually; you walk in balance––by faith.

There are times when the Christian life is reduced to what it essentially is — a walk by faith. By faith, not by sight or good feelings. God sometimes leads us through a period of dark clouds and we know that He is there only by faith.
