New Year’s Day

Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.
Psalm 119:18

Every year God can open our eyes and hearts to see wondrous things from His law. He constantly speaks to us through the Word of God, as we read and remain in constant communion with Him. Ask God to speak to you afresh this year. Start with an unmarked Bible, because you do not want to trust in what He has spoken to you in the past, but in the present. Take time to sit and listen, and then mark in your Bible what God has said to you.

I was taught by Pastor Chuck Smith to read the Bible line upon line, precept upon precept, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse. If you do this, you will read through the whole Bible––39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. Study the history and the background to all those books, and you will establish the Scriptures deep within your heart. As a child of God, you will begin to develop and grow.

God will give you understanding and lead you into the future, one step at a time. He has an appointed path for each of us to walk. He will bring hope into your life every day. His Word will give you security, and you will know He is in control. There is a blessing in walking according to God’s commands.

Understand, we read the Bible so that God can speak to us. God speaks to us personally; He opens our eyes as we meditate and memorize His Word. Make sure this year to have the priority of a daily devotional life. God will open your eyes and heart to the things He wants to change in your life. Pray to God for a transformed life, as conviction comes through His Word. May God’s Word change your life this New Year!

The pain of sacrificing our old selves is nothing compared to the joy of Christ living in us in our transformed lives.
