Promise Made, Promise Kept

Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.
Galatians 3:15-16

These verses are in reference to the promises of God given to Abraham. When men make promises, it is only a man-made agreement––it can easily be broken. Men are always breaking their covenants––promises. Yet when God gives to us His promises, they are always kept. You can always believe God’s Word. God’s promises are sure; nobody can take them away from us.

The Apostle Paul verifies this truth: For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us (2 Corinthians 1:20). God confirms His promises, and then He completes them. He ratifies or validates His promises because He loves us. If you have a written will, and you ratify or certify it, it is signed––completed. No letter or individual can add or take away from that agreement. When you come by faith to Jesus Christ, you gain all the promises of God, and nobody can challenge any of them.

When Paul spoke of the “Seed,” he was actually speaking of Jesus Christ, the divine Seed coming as prophesized in Genesis 3:15: And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

In the book of Genesis, God promised a Savior to be born. He made a covenant with His chosen people about the coming Messiah. Jesus, the “Seed,” would come into this world through Mary. The miracle of the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14) brought God to dwell among us. Jesus Christ would be born to die on the Cross for our sins. He defeated the devil, sin and death (Hebrews 2:14). Do you believe in the promises of God?

All the promises of God are “Yea” and “Amen” in Christ Jesus, and as He is ours, every promise is ours if we will but lie down upon it in restful faith.
