Blessed Are the Persecuted

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:10

When you exercise what Jesus taught in the Beatitudes, expect to be persecuted. I do not mean persecuted physically, but be ready to be put down and mocked by those in the world. People will despise you, saying, “You are too narrow-minded.” Yes, we are! Why? Jesus Christ has taught us characteristics that will cause us to be narrow-minded and keep us on a narrow path to eternal life:

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

Often the reason Christians will be persecuted is because they are living godly, righteously––a life of holiness––living for Christ. People dislike it when you will not compromise. When you are not lying, cheating and you choose to be honest, they get offended.

Understand, you will be persecuted––Jesus said it. Whenever you are doing what is right, people will criticize and oppose you. Even if they become annoyed, you have to make a stand for righteousness’ sake.

When people come against you, God is your Defender. Sometimes you may be falsely accused, but God is in control. Do not let false accusations and insults eat you up like a cancer. Let things go––otherwise the devil will use these situations to infect your heart and mind. Leave these situations in the hands of the Lord.

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
