Inquiring of the Lord

Then they told David, saying, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are robbing the threshing floors.” Therefore David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah.”
1 Samuel 23:1-2

Notice, we can learn another important lesson from the life of David. He habitually inquired of the Lord. David had heard that the Philistines had attacked Keilah, a city in the lowlands of Judah, robbing them of their grain. David asked the Lord, “Should I attack the Philistines?” He waited to hear from the Lord. The Lord told David, “Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah.” God directed David.  In fact, David’s men were afraid to go to battle. Saul may discover them. David inquired of the Lord a second time. God confirmed his word to David (1 Samuel 23:3-4).

People may question, “Does God really speak to us like that today?” Yes He does! If you really want God to speak to you, seek a place of solitude where there are no distractions. Take your Bible with you, along with some paper and a pencil. As you read and study, God will speak to you in a still small voice, through the Word of God. He desires to speak to you!

God wants you to seek Him for the smallest things in your life. Be honest. How many times have you made decisions without asking the Lord in prayer? You say, “Well if I ask God, He may take too long to answer me. It is better to use Visa!” Think about it? If you are going to buy a house, enroll your children in school, or go on a trip, it is important to get down on your knees and pray. Ask the Lord if this is what He wants for your life.

Surely you do not want to buy or sell your house or car without getting the mind of the Lord first. If you get ahead of the Lord by not praying for His will you may get yourself in financial trouble.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
