Knowing Your God

…concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
Romans 1:3-4

Paul gave us his Christian credentials. He was a bondservant and an apostle who was separated to preach the Gospel. Paul opened his letter by introducing us to his God. He declared both Jesus’ divinity and His humanity––His human nature. Paul knew God’s Son came through the royal lineage of King David, about His virgin birth, and His resurrection from the dead, which also proved His divinity (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Luke 1:26-33; John 20). This is Paul’s God! This is Christian doctrine.

Paul, in preaching the Gospel, scripturally proved to many of his listeners that Jesus was the Son of God. He could explain the evidence of the Son of God coming to earth, His dying on the cross, His resurrection from the dead, and His promised return. Before Paul’s conversion, he was a Pharisee; he knew the Old Testament Scriptures. Paul was an educated theologian, and he could refer back to them.

Everything written in the Scriptures leads to Jesus Christ. Understand, there are so many analogies in the Old Testament––beautiful types and pictures––to show us who we worship. Yet so many people cannot perceive it. The Old Testament brings us from the Law to grace. God made provision for sin by the shedding blood of the animals for redemption, atonement. In the Old Testament, the shedding of the blood of animals was only a covering for sin (Hebrews 9). In the New Testament, through the shedding of Jesus’ blood, our sins are never found again. We have got to know the Scriptures!

The Gospel is so simple. Listen to what Jesus declared about Himself: He is the only way, the only truth, and the only life. Jesus came, He died, and He promised to come again (John 14:3). Christians are to be set apart to preach the Gospel. Do you know your God? Let us study to know the Scriptures so we can share with others the full Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The proper study of a Christian is the Godhead.
