Teaching with Authority

And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Matthew 7:28-29

Jesus had finished teaching the Sermon on the Mount. Notice the reaction of the people who had heard Him speak. They were astonished at His teaching. Jesus taught them with authority. His words were powerful and convicting, yet they moved on the heart of men and women to bring about a change––a true transformation in those who followed Him.

Read and think on these Scriptures that speak on the power and authority of God’s Word:

Psalm 119:9: How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to your word.

Psalm 119:24: Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.

Luke 4:18: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me [Jesus], because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind….”

Hebrews 4:12: For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

How has the Sermon on the Mount impacted your life? Share what great things He has done for you with another person today.

The Bible is not only a book which was once spoken, but a book which is now speaking.
