God Gives Us Good Things

“Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Matthew 7:9-11

Jesus gave another understandable illustration. If a son asked his father for bread, would he give him a stone? “Here, Son, chew on this!” No way! The father would lovingly answer his son’s request and give him bread!

The good things given by our heavenly Father are not in reference to a new car, new house or more money, but in context it is in reference to the Holy Spirit. In Luke 11, this same statement of Jesus about prayer is also in reference to the Holy Spirit. Christians need the power of the Holy Spirit to be witnesses in the world.

If we ask God for His power in our lives, He will give it to us. The power of the Holy Spirit is given to believers who ask. It is important to continue to ask God to fill us with His Holy Spirit, for God wants every believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God will answer our prayers as we are obedient to His Word and doing the will of God, speaking the truth of God.

The fire of the Holy Spirit will never come down upon us unless we are living right. How can we pray for more power when we have no power because of our sin? We pray in contradiction to the Word of God. The only way God can answer our prayers is if we are obedient to His Word, and we are doing the will of God. Then the Holy Spirit will do the rest.

How does God view your life? What things do you need to change in your heart so you can become empowered by God’s Holy Spirit in these last days?

“…You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
~Acts 1:8~
