All Scripture . . . is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness . . .
(2 Timothy 3:16)
Often we are so swept away by the beauty of the inspiration that we miss the main purpose of the Scriptures: usefulness. The Word of God is not only for the theologian, academic, or pure scholar, but for anyone who will read it. The Word of God is a practical book for everyday living, helping us reach a point of staying right. That is, God speaks to every individual human situation in His Word, including the hopelessness of Hagar and Leah, the desperation of Dinah, the deception of Tamar, the shame of Michal, and the rape of Bathsheba.
