I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find Titus my brother there.
(2 Corinthians 2:13 NIV)
The word “pulpit” once referred to the very front of a ship where the forward watchman could peer ahead. That watchman saw everything first but also had to take the brunt of the waves as the bow of the ship crashed up and down on the waves. The life of watchmen is never one of relaxation. Their continual psychological state is called “vigilance,” which means that they are constantly attending to matters of significance. The authentic pastor must always be in that state when it comes to the opportunities of a church.
