And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper,

that He may abide with you forever.

                           (John 14:16)

The Holy Spirit is a personality, not an impersonal force. As such, He is the vehicle for the presence of both the Father and Son in our lives. As our personal Advocate, he is summoned to our side to plead, convince, and instruct. To the weak He is a comforter. Normally the word “comforter” carries with it the idea of passivity and weakness. This is a misnomer: the word actually carries the freight of strength. The Spirit comes to give us the strength to face insurmountable odds.
