Behold, a king will reign in righteousness.

     (Isaiah 32:1)

In Isaiah 11, the prophet identifies seven-fold qualifications that are characteristic of the Spirit’s work in the life of Jesus, the King of Kings. If just another king like the pagan rulers of Israel’s past was on the throne, he could face the same fate as poor Zedekiah. (After ending up blind and his sons going insane, he led the nation to worship pagan deities.) Unlike him, however, Jesus would be a righteous ruler who would do right according to God’s perfect plan.
