Many years ago Integrity Resource Center invited Mark Conklin, an executive from Chick-fil-A, to give a dinner presentation about Chick-fil-A’s customer service model called “SERVE.” He demonstrated by inviting one of our guests to the stage.
Mark dropped to his knees on stage and began to polish the shoes of our guest. This act of humble service on Mark’s part was awkward, yet powerfully modeled servant leadership.
Jesus started this unconventional approach in John 13 by washing his disciples feet, and then directing his disciples, “If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.”
