THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE

I woke up at one o’clock in the morning to the noise of the smoke detector going off in our bedroom. I got up and began to look all around the house for a fire. There was none. Then I heard the familiar sound of the smoke detector chirping. And I realized that the batteries must be dead.

I took the batteries out of two smoke detectors downstairs, but the chirping noise continued. So, I went to the breaker box, found the circuit for the smoke detectors and turned them off.

The noise finally stopped and we were able to go back to sleep, hopeful there was not going to be a real fire with no smoke detectors operational. The next day I bought two 9V batteries, installed them and turned the circuit back on.

Maybe it’s just me but in all my years of dealing with batteries and smoke detectors they seem to always choose the middle of the night to go off. Why can’t the batteries die during breakfast or around dinner time? It always has to be right in the middle of my deep sleep.

Time is a lot like the life of a battery – we rarely know how much is left until it’s gone. This is why time is so valuable. Psalm 90:12 tells us, “Teach us to use wisely all the time we have.”

It’s so easy to waste time doing things that aren’t important or significant. And since we’re not guaranteed tomorrow, we could end up out of time before we accomplished what God placed us on this earth to do.

Time and money are the two great currencies of life, but with time we can’t make more, buy more, or borrow more from someone else. And we can’t save it to use again in the future.

There is a fascinating reality about time, everyone gets the same amount of it. If you are very wealthy, you can’t buy more time. If you are a scientist, you can’t create more time. No matter who you are: rich, poor, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, male, female, it doesn’t matter. We all get the same amount of time.

If you are unsure or unclear about how to effectively spend your time, God does not ask you to do everything, just what he has called you to do. And there is always enough time for that.

How we use our time on earth impacts eternity. Invest your time living out your purpose with wisdom, focus and opportunity.
