JESUS SAVES RUNNERS

Tyler Moon ran the Medtronic TC 10 Mile race in Minneapolis on October 6, 2019, as part of the Twin Cities Marathon Weekend. The twenty-five-year-old decided that on his racing bib would be the phrase “Jesus Saves.”

He was originally going to have his name on the bib, like most runners do, but decided to wear something that would be a profession of his faith. He thought it was a simple statement that could fit on the bib and describe how Jesus saves us for eternity.

He hoped maybe someone in the crowd, a fellow runner or a race volunteer would be encouraged by his profession of faith. Or maybe they would think more about exactly who Jesus is.

At around the eight-mile mark Tyler suffered a medical emergency. A group of people rushed to help him, one of the people was Jesus. Not Jesus Christ but Jesus Bueno whose first name is pronounced “Hay-Soos.”

Jesus is a registered nurse anesthetist very knowledgeable in CPR and other life saving practices. Tyler experienced a ventricular tachycardia resulting in a heart attack and causing him to fall, fracturing his facial bones and suffering a concussion.

Jesus helped to treat Moon until the injured runner was transported to a nearby hospital. Tyler recovered well, went back to work and continued his normal life. But he is quite aware of how he was saved by a man named Jesus while wearing a Jesus Saves bib.

Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Jesus saves anyone who makes him the leader of their life. And believes that he died for their sins, then proved his victory over death and sin by his resurrection.

This is the gospel message. We are not perfect and God is. Jesus took upon himself our imperfections, our sins and died on the cross for us. He was perfect but became sin so that we might have the opportunity to be forgiven.

When we confess our sins, we are forgiven. When we accept Jesus into our lives the Father no longer sees our sin, he sees Jesus in us. Our imperfection is replaced with Jesus’ perfection and the Father welcomes us into a relationship with him through Jesus.

This message needs to be shared so that everyone can be saved. There are many ways to do it but each of us must find a way - so all can be saved.
