Know your enemy
Pastor Mark Jeske
There are many differences between the warfare our troops engage in today and the battles fought by our grandparents. For instance, WWII combatants wore uniforms. You knew who the enemy was. Today warfare in the Middle East and Afghanistan is asymmetrical; that is, the enemy is in civilian clothes and blends in with the civilian population.
You have an enemy from hell who is far more dangerous than any guerrilla fighter planting IEDs by the side of the road. Whether you like it or not, you are going up against Satan. St. John was allowed to see how ugly and dangerous Satan really is: “Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth” (Revelation 12:3,4).
The point of that dreadful vision: the horns represent Satan’s immense power, the crowns his claim to be king and lord of the earth, and the tail the cunning he exhibited in seducing one-third of the angels of heaven to follow him into his rebellion against God. Those angels are no longer the kindly servants and protectors God created; they are now demons who enjoy tormenting you.
Satan is a dragon who hates you, belching malevolent blasts of rage against God and threats toward you. Now you know.
