Facing the Unknown: Risk of Losing Friends
Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size." Numbers 13:30-32
When you take a true risk for God, you are going to risk losing friends. The spies in the passage above were good friends who had spent a lot of time together. But when they returned to Moses and Caleb, ten of the twelve went negative.
In our own lives, we must put the leadership of God above the wrong “they,” because the wrong “they” in your life don’t have good intentions for you in mind. They will lead you down the road of negativity. The right “they” always have “HE” in the middle. They are (T)ough, (H)onest, (E)ncouraging and (Y)ielded to God. Which category do your friends fit in?
Thank God that He surrounds us with godly people who want to invest in our lives. Ask Him to show you who the right “they” are in your life.
Is it time for you to do a “Friendventory”? Consider who you are spending your time with. Are these people who are encouragers who give you godly advice? Or are they more like the negative spies in the passage above?
