Jerusalem’s True King
Mary and I want you to go with us to the Holy Land, March 8-17, 2019. (For more info and registration visit www.truthencounter.com.) We would love to spend this time with you in the setting where most of His Story takes place. And, if you go with us, we’ll visit Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.
Each time I go to Israel, the thing that rivets my attention is how its present condition fulfills a prophecy Hosea made almost 800 years before Jesus, a time when Solomon’s Temple still stood in Jerusalem and a son of David ruled as king over the Southern Kingdom, but Hosea predicted that a time would come when Jews would dwell in their land without a king, without a prince, and without sacrifice.
Sacrifices haven’t been offered since the first-century destruction of the Temple in AD 70. There are two Moslem mosques but no Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount today, but in the future, there will be a new temple and more importantly, a Davidic King will rule over the world from Jerusalem.
“Afterward, the sons of Israel will return and they will seek the LORD their God and David their king. And with trembling they will approach the LORD and His goodness in the last days.” Hosea 3:5
The Jewish Targum comments on this passage and indicates that Hosea is talking about King Messiah and the Messianic era in this passage. Hosea saw a time when his people would seek David, and Jesus is the one man who fulfills all the clues in the Jewish Scriptures that point to this king.
Today the LORD is giving individuals (both Jews and Gentiles according to the Apostle Paul) the opportunity to reverently come to Jesus, the Son of David, and receive his gift of forgiveness and a share in his kingdom.
“Giving thanks to the Father who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him, we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:12-14
LORD, calm the conflict in Jerusalem today over the right to the Temple Mount so that there can be a time of peace in which individuals from every people group on earth can hear the Good News so they can have a part in the Son of David’s future glorious reign.
