The Christian Struggle
December 25, 2013
The lives of countless Christians is characterized by this: a terrible pattern of broken promises to God, sin and failure, confession and then a promise to “do better next time” – only to again fall into the same pattern all over again. As a believer, your sins are covered for eternity, but this pattern of defeat and constant struggle in your earthly life is not what the Lord Jesus had in mind when he promised in John Chapter 10 that we should have life, and have it abundantly.
The apostle Paul knew these struggles well when he said in Romans Chapter 7 – “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing”.
But Paul, in all of his majestic simplicity, gives us the answer…”Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – through, Jesus Christ our Lord! You see, Paul knew he could not do a thing in his own strength to save him from the penalty of his sins, in the same way he realized that only Jesus could save him from the bondage of his sins in his earthly life.
My friend, all of us have giants in our lives that are contrary to the will of God – addictions, greed, deceit; the list is endless. Stop fighting these giants in your own strength – you cannot win! The Lord Jesus has already won the battle, so trust in Him for the victory – set your minds on things above, not on earthly things! Jesus said that in him, you will bear much fruit – apart from him, you can do nothing.
