You learn to respect the police officer when you are an adult by how your mom and dad train you when you're a defiant two-year-old. As parents, we have the responsibility to make sure our child is ready to respect their teacher when they go to kindergarten and to train them to be self-disciplined and self-motivated when it’s time for them to leave the nest and fly on their own. It's not hard for kids to obey the command, "Honor your father and mother" when dad and mom are engaged and daily allowing Jesus' Spirit to guide them as they raise their kids. As parents, we need to realize that we are God's administrative assistant when it comes to our children. That's when we must look to the Lord constantly, respond to his guidance in the Word, and live obediently to him in our own lives. If we are becoming like him, there is a good chance that the child will hunger to become like him too. In the majority of cases our kids tend to grow up and reflect not what we said with our mouth, but what we demonstrated in our lives.
