The Lord says to Cain, “If you do what is right will not I accept you. If you do what is wrong, sin is crouching at your door. It desires to have you but you must master it.” What’s that story about? I’m not just teaching you so you learn a little about the original family. I want to try to give you keys to the way that the Lord is telling his story. The Lord just introduced Cain to a great conflict. The serpent wants to have Cain, he wants to have you, he wants to have me. It’s a great battle that goes on inside. This is way before Peter tells us in 1 Peter that Satan’s like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour. That is way at the end of God’s story, but here at the beginning we meet this same adversary crouching like a lion to destroy us. We need to cry out to God for help so that we can turn away from the hate and murder that smoldered inside of Cain.
