The Lord came to the people on Mt Sinai, to a people that had been enslaved 400 years. They had been whipped, they had been lashed, their families had been divided, their babies had been killed. For 400 years they lived this terrible situation. At Mt Sinai the LORD said to them, “I am the LORD your God. I am the one who delivered you from Egypt, from the house of slavery.” It is very important for us to understand that the King of Kings that came to the people of Israel was a redeemer. That's why he had every right to say, “Thou shalt love me with your heart, mind, soul, and spirit. You shall have no other gods before me.” The first commandment is God’s exclusive right over our lives.
