The Bike Rider

by Berni Dymet

Gal. 6:9 So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we do not give up.

I saw something really inspiring the other day. I’m walking through the crowded streets near our office. And you know those couriers who dart through the traffic and the pedestrians on their pushbikes? (How they don’t get killed on the road I’ll never know.)

Anyhow, I saw one of those guys on his pushbike – but he only had one leg. The other leg – was an artificial limb; just this kind of a metal leg with a foot on it. At some point, he’s lost his leg and yet the job he chooses for himself is courier – riding a pushbike all day through the traffic.

How easy would it have been just to give up on life when he lost his leg? How easy is it for you and me to want to give up when we face adversity and pain? Well?!!

But if we just keep on going, if we keep on doing what’s right – eventually, we’ll reap at harvest-time. You see, my hunch is … it’s a God thing.

So many things in this world promise so much … and yet, so often, they fail to deliver. God’s promises, on the other hand, never fail. Well … we know that in theory and yet, too many of those who believe in Jesus, somehow don’t quite seem to manage to lay hold of God’s promises in practice. How exactly do you live in the promises of God? Well, that’s what our latest Life Application Booklet is all about: It’s Time to Take the Promised Land.
