Lost & Found

I Kings 19:11-13  ...the Lord is about to pass by. Now there was a great wind... but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the win... an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and ... a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle...Then there came a voice to him ...

A friend of mine, Gary, was telling me the other day he was rummaging through some boxes and he found a book that he'd forgotten he had. It was called "How to improve your memory."

Isn't it funny how we can know something really important, and then we forget it so completely it's just been expunged from our memory.

I was like that. As a young man - I knew, I knew deep down, I just knew - that God did something awesome for me by sending Jesus to die on a cross. But as I grew up, matured - somehow I lost it all.  And then one day when I was wandering round in a spiritual wasteland - He reminded me.

It was like a quiet nudge - a gentle voice. And gradually it grew - not louder - but clearer. Until today, that relationship is the most important part of my life.

I love how God works. Gently, kindly wooing us with His love.

So many things in this world promise so much … and yet, so often, they fail to deliver. God’s promises, on the other hand, never fail. Well … we know that in theory and yet, too many of those who believe in Jesus, somehow don’t quite seem to manage to lay hold of God’s promises in practice. How exactly do you live in the promises of God? Well, that’s what our latest Life Application Booklet is all about: It’s Time to Take the Promised Land.
