People Matters

September 28, 2010
In life, there are leaders and there are followers. Many of us think that leaders are more important than followers, but leaders need followers just like followers need leaders. So everyone works together and everyone matters. Nehemiah, chapter 7, includes a list of people - both leaders and followers - who stepped out in faith to work for Christ. In this message, Pete discusses three things these people had in common and how we can be effective followers of Christ. This is the 6th message in Pete's 9-message series After I Say "Yes, Lord." Nehemiah 7

Sometimes when trying to assume a leadership role, criticism and opposition occur. And often, just when you think that you have overcome the opposition, it sneaks right back up on you. So how does someone take the personal attacks from the opposition and still be an effective leader? In this message, Pete discusses four specific ways we can be attacked and four ways to overcome it. This is the 5th message in Pete's 9-message series After I Say "Yes, Lord." Nehemiah 6

We tend to treat people commensurate with their social standing, don't we? If we perceive someone to be below us in social standing, we treat them differently than the people we perceive to be above us. It stinks, but it's the way we often do it. Even as believers, when we function in the flesh, we think of people according to the "pecking order" and treat them differently. This is not kingdom thinking. In this message, Pete looks at Nehemiah chapter 5 and discusses four ways we can treat people in order to glorify God. This is the 4th message in Pete's 9-message series After I Say "Yes, Lord." Nehemiah 5

In many situations, criticism and opposition are inevitable. This is especially true when we try to do God's work. Even within the church, people will find fault with just about anything – the length of the sermon, the style of the music, the Sunday school format, or even the color of the bulletin. In this message, Pete uses Nehemiah's actions as examples of two things we can do with criticism. This is the 3rd message in Pete's 9-message series After I Say "Yes, Lord." Nehemiah 4

Most of us have experienced starting a new job and being trained on how to complete the new duties. Without this training, it would be a lot harder to figure out what we needed to do every day. The same is true when we serve the Lord. It's easier for us to serve when we know how to do it. In this message, Pete looks into the book of Nehemiah and studies the gates of Jerusalem to give us six training lessons about how we can serve God better. This is the 2nd message in Pete's 9-message series After I Say "Yes, Lord." Nehemiah 3

God can choose the most unlikely people to carry out His plan. Moses stuttered, so God sent Him to talk to Pharaoh. Paul was a Jew, so God sent him to the Gentiles. Often times we do one thing because we think that's what God wants from us, but then He calls us into something totally different and unique. Some of us know just where God wants us to be, and some of us haven't quite figured it out yet. In this message, Pete looks at the book of Nehemiah and discusses six things about Nehemiah's sending that will help you discover yours. Paul, in his letter to the Church of Ephesus, stresses the importance of being "filled with the Spirit." When we hear this, most of us think of being "full," like being full of a liquid; but this is not the type of full that Paul was referring to. In this message, Stuart explores Paul’s letter to Ephesus and teaches what it really means to be filled with the Spirit. This is the tenth message in Stuart and Jill's 10-message Bible study series on the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit can do amazing things within us, if we let Him. In this message Jill explains how we can let the Spirit change us, how we can develop the Spirit's character, how we can respond to the Spirit's call, and so much more. Learning these things can help us walk in the Spirit - not the flesh - so we can have a positive impact on the lives of those around us. This is the ninth message in Stuart and Jill's 10-message Bible study series on the Holy Spirit.

We are called to live by the Spirit so we can overcome the desires of our sinful nature. But how do we do that? In this message, Jill helps us understand what it means to live by the Spirit by examining the "fruits of the flesh" and then looking at the first three fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, and peace. This is the eighth message in Stuart and Jill's 10-message Bible study series on the Holy Spirit.
