Mystery Divine - Part 1

October 15, 2010
Let's start with a math lesson: 1+1=2, right? Wrong – at least when it comes to marriage. In marriage: 1+1=1. This is because marriage is all about oneness. Pete calls this oneness the mystery divine. In this message, Pete describes how important this mystery is by diving into Ephesians 5. He explains the true meaning of the passage in hopes of providing clarity to make our marriages strong.

Attitude can make all the difference – especially in marriage. Arguing with your spouse goes a whole lot differently when those involved take the time to positively adjust their attitudes. The trick is to know how to make this attitude adjustment. In this message, Pete looks at Ephesians 5 and studies submission in a whole new and exciting way so that we all can have a great marriage attitude.

Scripture clearly teaches that marriage and the resultant establishment of families are divine. Creation principles place great emphasis on the rearing of children by their parents. The prophet Malachi powerfully spoke to these issues. Malachi 2:15

In biblical times the extended family structure, that included various generations, differed widely from the nuclear family we experience today. In our current culture we may be in danger of losing generational interaction. Psalm 71 can help us.

There are no guarantees that all will go smoothly in life or marriage because there are many forces intent on destroying our lives and relationships. But God promised us the resources we need to deal with life's eventualities and we have to decide which way we are going to go - or as Joshua said, which gods are we going to serve? (Joshua 24:15)

Given all the ink that has been spilled on the subject of marriage, it is remarkable that no less an authority than Jesus summarized the basic principles of the married life in two or three sentences! Everyone should be familiar with what He said and seek to apply it. (Mark 10:1-9)

Isn't it fun when a friend calls unexpectedly and asks you to do something special together? Often our response is to jump to our feet to go and meet up with them. This joyful "response to the call" is something God is looking for in us. In fact, the natural response of disciples of Jesus should be to jump to our feet and run toward His call. In this message, Pete explains the different ways we can respond to God's call and serve Him. This is the 9th message in Pete's 9-message series After I Say "Yes, Lord." Nehemiah 11

Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
