Living True

July 19, 2010
We've all heard about kids who said they ate all of their vegetables, but they really fed them to the dog. And maybe there's been a time in your life when you agreed with something someone said, even though you knew it wasn't true. These lies may seem harmless, but in God's eyes they're not. In this message, Pete talks about two types of lying, the impact lying can have, and how we can change that behavior. This is the 6th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 5.

How do you know a young girl is in love? She talks about him all the time! And parents who love their kids often brag about them to everyone, and many of us know grandparents who talk about their grandkids constantly. The same is true if we're in love with Jesus - we talk about Him all the time. In this message, Pete looks at the life of Peter to help us understand how we can love Jesus more. This is the 4th message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 3 & 4.

Many of us have a person in our lives who is a good example of how we should be - maybe a parent, teacher, or friend. When it comes to our relationship with God, we can look to Jesus' disciples as good examples of the kinds of Christians we should be. In this message, Pete looks at the book of Acts and uses the disciples' lives as examples to demonstrate four attitudes that we can have that will bring glory to Christ. This is the 3rd message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 3.

As human beings, we long for a connection with people. In fact, in Genesis, God knew it was not good for man to be alone, so He created a woman to be a companion for Adam. In this message, Pete describes the importance of relationships and lets us know how to become community-devoted disciples of Christ. This is the 2nd message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 2:42-47.

Do you want to impact others for Christ? I think most of us would answer yes, but it may be hard for us to know just how to do that. In this message, Pete looks at the books of Luke and Acts to help us understand how we can have a mission mindset in order to have a huge impact in the lives of others. This is the first message in Pete's series "Impacting Our World" and is based on Acts 1.

Our lifestyles are intended to give continuing evidence of the work of grace in our lives. They should also bring glory to God and be a means of testimony to those who are estranged from Him. But what do these lifestyles look like and how do we live them?

In Peter's time, some people wished to live without God so they rationalized Him into irrelevance. Others, thinking He had disappeared from the scene, sought life without Him. The same mistakes are being made today. But He is still God and firmly in control.

There were many false teachers in these days, and one of the things they were saying is that there's no need to worry about a final judgment. But that's just wrong! If we believe there's no final judgment, then it really doesn't matter what we do. If it doesn't matter what we do, then we can spend our life raising "hell." We can just go out and have a wild time! We can do everything that our lower nature longs to do - no restraints, no limits, no consequences, and no accountability. That's just not true, as Peter points out in this passage, II Peter 2:1-9. This is the third message in Stuart Briscoe's series, "Six Things We Must Never Forget."

In Peter's day, the Old Testament Scriptures and the apostles' teachings were being twisted, fundamental truths ridiculed, and biblical morality repudiated. So he reminded the people of the significance of God's Word. We need the reminder, too, for we live in similar days.

Human history is all about oppression and liberation, tyranny and emancipation. It is also about the abuse of freedom and confusion about liberty. Peter addressed the issue, talking about being "slaves of depravity" and "a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him."
