Foundational Principles - Final Instructions

September 2, 2014
In Jesus' last days with His disciples, He laid out the blueprints for the founding of His church. He made sure His disciples knew what the church should be, whose it was going to be, and what their jobs were in building it.

In this message from Acts 1, Stuart examines these foundational principles and how well our churches today are following them. This is the third message in Stuart's series Why Church?

When we think about the church as a building, we lose sight of the real purpose of the church - to be an example of loving community to the fragmented communities in the world around us. In this second message of the series, Why Church?, Stuart explains what it means to be part of the community of the called, and it's based on Ephesians 4:1-6.

For hundreds of years, people have been talking about the church as if it were simply a building. But that was never what it was meant to be. Stuart Briscoe begins his 12-message series Why Church?, by helping us get out of the mindset of the church as a building, and into the mindset of thinking of "church" as first and foremost a word for relationships and community.

We might never have known the beautiful story of the Good Samaritan if he was not a man of financial means. He helped the man who was lying on the side of the road, who was beaten by robbers, when no one else would. The Good Samaritan had the means to pay for the man's food and lodging while he rested and healed. Do you have the financial means to help others in need? In this message, Pete Briscoe focuses on God's teaching that giving is eternal in nature and it never fades. And he reminds us that when God blesses us financially, He offers us the opportunity for great joy if we in turn bless others. Based on Acts 20:35 and Matthew 6:19-21, this is Pete's final message in his series, Finding Freedom in Your Finances.

Do you need help defeating the downward spiral of debt? God doesn't want you obsessing like a child in a candy store, wondering what to buy to bring you that next 30 minutes of satisfaction. He wants you to find your satisfaction in Jesus! Remember that God calls us in Hebrews 13:5 to keep our lives free from the love of money and to be content. If you're struggling with wants and debt, could it be that what you're really struggling with is to find your purpose, peace, and contentment in Jesus? Pete Briscoe takes a look at this in his message taught from Hebrews 13:5 and 1 Timothy 6:6-11. This is Pete's third message in his series, Finding Freedom in Your Finances.

Do you feel like you're "missing out" in life because you don't have a home or apartment, vehicle, or the latest technology toy? This powerful lie has been used from the beginning of time. Remember how the serpent told Adam and Eve they were "missing out" by not eating from the Tree of Knowledge? The promise behind the lie is a lie itself! And people in the Bible fell for this lie just as we do today. Pete Briscoe shows us our only defense from our wants and how to find the fulfillment we seek. This message is the second teaching in Pete's 4-message series, Finding Freedom in Your Finances, and it's based on Genesis 2:8-3:6.

No one in their right mind would willingly walk into a state of slavery. Yet, that's what millions of us do when we decide to "buy money" in order to possess things we can't afford. So where does this feeling of need and entitlement come from? Pete Briscoe challenges how many believers define being blessed and teaches on the role Christ plays in finding all that we need. This message is the first teaching in Pete's 4-message series, Finding Freedom in Your Finances, and it's based on Romans 13 and Deuteronomy 6.

We began by noting that "the fear of the Lord" is the fundamental basis of a system of values, and we have been reminded continually that absolute values are found in the character and nature of God. We conclude by recognizing that ultimate values are found in relationship to the Lord, particularly in doing that which pleases Him. Based on Proverbs 15:33-16:7, this is the final message in Stuart Briscoe's 10-part series, Values?

At the conclusion of the famous book Habits of the Heart the authors wrote: "Our society has been influenced by the tradition of modern individualism. We have taken the position that our most important task today is the recovery of the insights of the older biblical...traditions." Let's start with Proverbs 3:3 and 21:21. This is the ninth message in Stuart Briscoe's 10-part series, Values?

A basic principle of life is, "In all your ways acknowledge Him (the Lord)." One of the ways is the way we handle money. We are taught in Scripture to "honor the Lord with your wealth." But why should we and how do we? Based on Proverbs 3:9-15, this is the eighth message in Stuart Briscoe's 10-part series, Values?
