Your Sins Will Find You Out, Part 1

In the book of Isaiah, we see Israel’s sins — they turned from the Lord, they followed other gods, and they looked to their own strength and money for salvation. Today, Pastor Jeff warns us against making the same mistakes that Israel did. Because we know the truth, God will judge us severely if we turn away from Him.

As we get into Isaiah 2, Pastor Jeff explains why it is such an important book. Sometimes we can get bogged down in the Old Testament; but through the prophets, God has given us a wealth of prophecy and knowledge of the end-times. Thankfully, he has given us the Holy Spirit to make His Word plain to us!

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Pastor Jeff warns us that sin isn’t bad because it’s forbidden — sin is forbidden because it’s bad! Sin will destroy your peace and ruin your life. And be sure that your sins will find you out!

One big topic in the Old Testament is judgment. God appointed His prophets to announce judgment on the wicked. And yet that is exactly where our country is headed. Instead of wasting our lives, we need to buckle down and involve ourselves in God’s work. We don’t know how much time is left, but we know that God will judge the corruption in our country and the world.

Isaiah 53:6 says, “All we like sheep have gone astray.” Without a shepherd, sheep are lost. They have no protection and no direction whatsoever. This is why God compares His people to sheep. Without Him, we are lost and have no direction. Yet when the Lord is our shepherd, we have purpose, protection, and fulfillment in our lives.

Prophecy is a huge part of Scripture, and it is often underrated. But as we get into Isaiah, we see how important prophecy really is! God uses it to comfort us — we see how He has planned for the future. We also see how the Lord keeps His Word.

Sadly, many churches today aren’t teaching the true Word of God. They’ve strayed from the literal words of the Bible, and gone on to create their own teachings. These might be loosely based on the Bible, but as believers, we know that’s not good enough. Every word in the Bible is infallible and perfect, just as God intended.

Though some individuals argue that the Bible has been diluted and much truth has been lost in translation, Pastor Jeff discusses how this is absolutely not the case. Where does it say that living the Christian life is easy? With salvation comes trials and tribulations. But God also gives us the ability to endure these hardships, and He strengthens us through them. Today, Pastor Jeff gives us the examples of Isaiah and Hezekiah, two prophets of the Lord who underwent great hardships, and also learned not to negotiate with the Lord.
