Our Call & Commission, Part 2

August 1, 2012
Being saved doesn’t automatically mean that we are serving the Lord with our whole hearts. This is something we have to work on daily. There is great blessing in going before the Lord. There always seems to be a good reason to skip church or Bible study, but Pastor Jeff exhorts us to make worship a priority! By doing so, God will reveal our secret sins and faults, and allow us to repent and come before Him blameless.

Sometimes God sends tribulations our way. Weathering these problems helps us to develop strong, godly characters. The most important thing we can do during these tough days is turn our eyes upon Jesus. When we keep our minds firmly fixed on Him, our faith is strengthened, and we can in turn help others who are struggling.

Sin removes us from our heavenly Father. Sadly, our nation has replaced God’s morality and rules for man’s rules. Instead of measuring everything against God’s standards, man makes his own. Be careful not to get sucked into the reasoning of the world. God’s standard is the only one that matters.

Galations 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Here we learn that we will have to answer to God for all of our actions. As believers, we have no excuse. We know what the Word says, and we will be held accountable to God if we deliberately transgress His commandments.

Deuteronomy 8:11 says, “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God.” Do you tend to coast along when your life gets comfortable? Israel had the same problem. They forgot how the Lord protected and provided for them, and they began to rely on their own strength. Don’t let this happen to you! Keep listening to hear more truth from God’s Word.

As we get through the first few chapters of Isaiah, we see a connection between Isaiah’s teachings to the nations of Israel and our nation today. Sin plagued Israel just as it plagues America, but Pastor Jeff tells us that we can still pursue God and bear fruit for Him, no matter what those around us are doing. Examine your own heart, and be sure you’re living for the Lord.

In today’s sobering devotional, we learn how far Israel fell before she was captured and entered into captivity. Isaiah records how the people were haughty and proud, depending on their wealth and status instead of on God. They flaunted their sin in public, and God allowed them to be brought into captivity. God is patient, yet He is just. He will bring us to the end of ourselves in order to draw us back to Him, just as He did with Israel.

The prophet Isaiah records the judgment that the Lord metes out on those who reject Him. We are no longer “one nation under God.” Instead, we are living in the Day of Man. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff reminds us of the boldness of Isaiah, and encourages us to be like him! Don’t let your fear of man keep you from ministering through your godly actions, words, and attitude.

In the book of Isaiah, we see Israel’s sins — they turned from the Lord, they followed other gods, and they looked to their own strength and money for salvation. Today, Pastor Jeff warns us against making the same mistakes that Israel did. Because we know the truth, God will judge us severely if we turn away from Him.

Without salvation, no one can understand the fulfillment we have in Christ. Sadly, we are living in a time when man is proud and seeks only to satisfy himself. In today’s study, the prophet Isaiah speaks of the folly of pride, and the Lord’s judgment on the haughty!

Our Christian walk should take us forward, not backward. Salvation is only the beginning of our work for the Lord! Today, Pastor Jeff reminds us that the purpose of spiritual maturity is to be able to minister to others. If you are lax in your walk, how will you bless those around you?
