Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Let Me Control Your Life, Part 3 of 3 (Why Good People Do Bad Things)

July 3, 2013

Pastor Lutzer shows us that we have our own kingdoms—career, money, even our giftedness —and how we can easily fall into the same snare as Saul did. By comparing David’s reaction to Saul’s attacks, we also learn what we can do to keep from sinning.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. Trying to hold on to his kingdom by destroying those around him, King Saul gives us a good example of how an obsession with control can become evil.

Control lies at the heart of sin. We’re all born controllers. But when does wanting to control something become, not just a sin, but evil?

Jesus can deliver you from any addiction. God wants to deliver us from sin. He sent His Son to die so that we could experience freedom from sin. The transformation occurs when our love for Christ is greater than our love of sin. When we humbly submit to the will of God, He will begin to change our desires until eventually seeking and loving God is more important than seeking our next “fix.”

Addictions will always trip us up in the race of life. Once caught in the trap, many people find themselves unable to break free. In today’s message you’ll hear how to take the first steps toward freedom and the real life God wants you to experience.

An addiction is the blinding self-absorption of sin. It doesn’t matter what the sin is, and you just can’t tuck it away somewhere. It needs to be dealt with because a sin can progress into an addiction. It will become your master, and you’ll be its slave. Listen today as Pastor Lutzer explains how freedom is attainable.

In God we can find the fatherhood that all of us need whether we’ve come from a good home or a bad home. When we trust Christ as our Savior, God adopts us. We are His sons and daughters and we can say, “I am loved by God as much as He loves His Son, Jesus.”

When you come from a home without a good father, or from a home with no father at all, life can be tough—very tough. Sown in you may be seeds of future conflict. But those seeds need not germinate if we understand the fatherhood of God. Today, you’ll hear teaching that might be the key to opening a prison door in your life.

One person is the key to how you relate to life and to life’s stressful situations.   That person is your dad. We may not even realize the deep impact left by our fathers. Much of our inner pain can be traced to how we relate to our dads. Join us as we look at why your father is so important in your life.

Uncontrollable anger is a problem of the spirit, only solvable in the spiritual realm. The way to overcome it begins with admitting our problem, rejoicing in God’s acceptance and then forgiving others.
June 20, 2013
Some people think you can get rid of anger by hitting something inanimate and “letting off steam.” The trouble, however, is that this doesn’t work. We need to turn to the Bible to not only pinpoint the source of rage but also to help us handle it.
