Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Jonah was told by God to preach to people he didn’t like. His attempt to flee ended up bringing him to face the God of second chances—and the God whose will would ultimately be done.

Obligations. We all have them. Some of which we’d do anything to be free of. Jonah was given a task from God and yet he ended up on an amazing journey to avoid it.

Choices made in a moment can have repercussions that last for generations.  King David made an impulsive choice going after Bathsheba, and a pregnancy resulted. This set in motion the inevitable cover-up, in which her husband was killed to hide the sin. But the sin was uncovered and the outcome involved severe temporal judgment.

A moral mistake can be the mistake of a lifetime. King David made a big mistake with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite. He wanted to keep it a secret—and try as he might, he couldn’t cover it up—even those who haven’t read the Bible have probably heard the story.

Have you ever made a hasty promise only to find out you were being played? You’re not the only one. Joshua faced the same thing with the Gibeonites. But his response is a model for how we should react after we find out we’ve made a reckless promise.

Are you a person of integrity? Can people count on you to do what you say? Or do you fail to keep your promises? In today’s message, we take a look at the importance of keeping our word—a measure of personal integrity.

When you make a bad choice, you have to live with the consequences. Consequences you never could have anticipated. But even in the midst of the turmoil, there is hope.

Bad decisions. At some point and time we’ve all made one. Sometimes we don’t even know why. But what can we do about them? God offers hope to those willing to listen.

When you think of “Eden,” you think of a paradise where life is carefree and there’s nothing to worry about. But it was in this paradise that Adam and Eve sinned and sealed the fate for all of mankind.

Hindsight is 20-20. Anyone can see the results of a choice after it’s made. It’s tough to predict the future. What do you do when you’ve made a bad call, and have to live with it? The Bible has many examples of this, and today we begin a series on Making the Best of a Bad Decision. We’ll learn that there is hope, even if we’ve really messed things up.
