Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

--1 Peter 5:6-7

When I was a pastor in Florida, we got a call from Burt Reynolds office. He lived in that area and they wanted to use our church building to perform a stunt for his television series, B.L. Stryker. After thinking it through, we decided to consent to their request and allowed them to use our facilities.

When they brought in all the stunt guys to act in Burt’s place, I had the opportunity to meet them. The stunt guys were some of the wildest people I’ve ever met in my life. To make a living, they jump out of helicopters, through windows, and off high-rise buildings. They even challenged me at the time to jump off the third floor of our educational building.

They had what looked like an oversized pillow to land on when the jump was executed. I asked one of the guys, “How do you ever get the courage to jump out of a plane or jump off a building like this?”

He said, “You don’t worry about it. You just take the first step and the rest takes care of itself. I’ll jump off nearly anything if I know I’ve got a good catcher.”

Christians, you’ve got a good catcher. Peter learned that and he later wrote, “[cast] all your care upon Him for He cares for you.” You take a step of faith and even if you think you’re going under, He’ll lift you up. Do you feel like you’re sinking in your job, a crisis at home, or a relationship gone wrong? Maybe it’s a completely different situation with which you’re facing difficult issues. In every situation, whether the steps are too big to take or the fall seems too much to handle, call upon the Lord and he’ll carry you through.

JESUS IS THE CHRIST OF EVERY CRISIS.
