Putting First Things First, Part 3

November 29, 2023

Everyone begins each day with an opportunity. We all have the same twenty-four hours to spend. Too many, however, watch this time slip away because of poor prioritization.

Careful thought always precedes good action. The Israelite leaders recognized this reality, and in Nehemiah 10, they signed a document promising to lead lives committed to God. Since God was their priority, these faithful people would begin each day looking to Him.

Put first things first with Pastor Chuck Swindoll as he demonstrates the importance of placing God above every other demand.

Perhaps you need a fresh look at what Jesus made possible for you. Grace leads us to salvation, and then it directs us toward Spirit-empowered living! Embracing grace was difficult for many of the apostle Paul’s peers. It was natural for them to return to human-based rules, which they were so accustomed to. Preaching on Paul’s instructions in Galatians, Pastor Chuck Swindoll illustrates the right road between oppressive legalism and flippant freedom. Live by the power of God’s grace!

King David was a man of war who’d boldly taken on Goliath, foreign armies, and even wild animals. But there was one giant David couldn’t bear to face—the tremendous guilt of his own sin. Reviewing Psalm 32:1–11, Pastor Chuck Swindoll examines David’s agony-filled account. From frayed emotions to suffering physical health, David had hit his lowest point. But he found relief by confessing his sin to God! Listen in and discover the benefits of coming clean with your Maker. Move from grievous guilt to glorious grace!

How is your prayer life? Do you feel satisfied with your conversations with God? Would you like them to be more frequent or to feel more meaningful? The later part of Nehemiah contains a beautiful prayer worth modeling. The prayer of the Jewish leadership looked in four directions: up to God in praise, back in thanksgiving, at the present circumstances, and ahead to the future. Model this kind of four-dimensional praying with Pastor Chuck Swindoll and watch your prayer life reach new heights!

There’s a great difference between knowledge and wisdom, between recalling information and applying insight. Many Christians have knowledge but lack the wisdom that leads to Christlike transformation. The Israelites knew they needed to change after decades of living in exile, but they needed someone to teach them. Nehemiah 8:13–18 records how Ezra offered his people needed discernment into the Mosaic Law. Reclaim the lost, fine art of insight with Pastor Chuck Swindoll, and see how it will change your life for your good and for God’s glory.
