Extending Grace to Let Others Be, Part 2

October 9, 2023

It’s easy to confuse nonessentials with essentials. Food is a fundamental need for every human, yet the types of food we eat can vary according to personal taste and need.

In Romans 14, the apostle Paul discusses how believers with opposing viewpoints on nonessentials can live in harmony with one another.

Pastor Chuck Swindoll wraps up this series on grace by concluding that, while God loves unity, he doesn’t demand uniformity. Understand how you can extend grace to others even amid differences.

The grim reality of humanity’s sinful condition fills the opening chapters of Paul’s letter to the Romans. But the eighth chapter sounds a refrain of relief: “There is now no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (8:1). The gospel is good news because it says that freedom from sin isn’t earned. Rather, it is a gracious gift from God! Join Pastor Chuck Swindoll as he reveals that Christians have a choice—either to continue to yield to the sinful desires of the flesh or to experience true freedom through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans depicts the stages of a person’s spiritual journey with Christ—the journey from lost soul to liberated believer. In Romans 7:1–25, Paul abruptly pauses his travelog of faith to offer his readers a humble and honest self-portrait. Look closely as Paul reveals his inner conflict with his own sinful nature. Pastor Chuck Swindoll shows that, even though the strongest believers struggle with sin, Jesus Christ offers His people moment-by-moment victory.

Many people are slaves to earthly masters like wealth, power, sex, or self-indulgence. Such masters lure people with false hope only to leave them empty and thirsting for more. Those who put their faith in Jesus Christ serve a better Master, one who is a compassionate and gentle and who will never disappoint. Romans 6:15–23 explains that, through His death, Christ offered freedom to experience the peace and wholeness that God designed for His people. So, whose slave will you be—sin’s or Christ’s? Make the choice today with Pastor Chuck Swindoll.
