Ambitious Faith Part 5a

June 7, 2011
Back in the 1950 Manaco Grand Prix, Juan Manuel Fangio was approaching a dangerous bend in the track when he noticed all the faces of the spectators were all turned away from him. "If they were not looking at me," Fangio thought, "They must be looking at something more interesting around the corner." He braked hard and as he rounded the bend noticed the road was blocked by a massive pileup. It pays to heed a warning, and that's expecially true when it comes to God's warnings. Today on Focal Point, we consider the example of Noah and notice the importance of not only heeding God's warnings but also rightly responding to them.

While things are going from bad to worse all around us, we're called as Christians to be set apart and live a God-pleasing life. As that's getting increasingly difficult we may wonder, how do we do that? Today on Focal Point, we'll derive great encouragement from the life of an Old Testament hero of the faith who lived in a culture much like our own. In that environment, he did what was right, and brought glory to our God. And we can too!

Our lives and priorities get out of whack from time to time, and I'm sure you can attest to that! With that in mind, it's good for each of us to consider examples of those who used their lives and priorities to seek and please God. One such example is Enoch, and his life is brought before us today on Focal Point. When we get right down to it, our highest priority in life should be knowing God. That's what we were created for, and yet many have that somewhere on the back burner. Enoch was fully engaged in this unending pursuit, and let's see how to get there ourselves.

This is the third leg in our journey through Hebrews eleven. The series is called, "Ambitious Faith," and today we'll get a glimpse at the ambitious faith of Abel, who was willing to risk giving God excellent gifts. The Lord wants us to bring Him our very best, and have a life right in tune with that gift. Do you have any heroes in your life? While much of the world looks to superstar athletes, movie stars, and the rich and powerful as heroes, we'll be encouraged to add some godly heroes to our lives in Christ today!

As you may know, Hebrews eleven has long been referred to as the hall of faith as it highlights heroes that exemplify ambitious faith. The first guy we encounter is Abel, a godly man who was sold out for Christ, and his life showed it. Through this study, we'll be encouraged to follow in his footsteps and give God excellent gifts. He really is so worthy of that. Today's Focal Point is all about bringing God our best.

I think we can all agree that it takes faith to believe that God created the heavens and the earth. However, did you realize it takes faith to believe evolution as well? Mike Fabarez will logically compare what our kids are so often taught in the classroom with what we find in the Bible and offer more observations about evolution and creationism.

We're comparing the theory of evolution with the biblical account of creation today on Focal Point. Those that embrace evolution often claim that Christians have a blind faitth that is in opposition to science and logic. On our broadcast today, Pastor Mike Fabarez will objectively look at both sides of the fence. We invite you to examine the evidence with us on this edition of Focal Point.

Pastor Mike Fabarez is just getting started with his new series from Hebrews eleven, “Ambitious Faith.” As we dive into today’s study, Mike is going to lay an important foundation, and help us get a grasp of real, biblical faith.

Maybe like so many today you relate faith to the beginning of the Christian life. Afterall, we know that it takes faith to become a Christian! Today on Focal Point, Pastor Mike Fabarez will show us that biblical faith is actually so much more than that. It’s a key to being and doing all that God intends for us. We’re really excited today, as this marks the beginning of our thirteen part series, “Ambitious Faith.” It finds its roots in Hebrews 11. Throughout the study we’ll seek to cultivate a tenacious trust in a powerful God.

Today we’ll finish up our series, “A Closer Relationship with God,” with a few more words about eternal rewards. If you’ll recall last time, Pastor Mike Fabarez encouraged us to let eternal rewards motivate us. Maybe like a lot of believers, you think you’ve got a lot of time and will get around to living for God later. Pastor Mike will reveal the benefits of investing now, rather than later.

Maybe like myself you have dogs at home? Some suggest, if you want to get good behavior out of them, that’s best achieved through reinforcing good behavior with rewards. Maybe you do that with your children, or employees at work too! The Bible has quite a bit to say about eternal rewards for the believer in Christ, and Pastor Mike Fabarez is about to show us that we should allow this to motivate us. Perhaps that sounds like an ungodly motivation, when you stop to think of it? In actuality, it’s a very godly motivation, as we’ll soon see.
