Does anyone care what the true meaning of an oath is and the responsibilities that come with that oath? It’s self-evident that not much attention was placed on the importance of that oath in the past especially the oath of those appointed to public service.
Now that we are in such social and economic upheaval and the United States is well under way to becoming one more socialist and Marxist nation in the world, it seems some are beginning to pay attention to the meaning of the oath of office. Why is it important that we understand this? Read the oath and see for yourself:
5 U.S.C. § 3331 sets forth the oath required of members of Congress and other federal officials (including Cabinet officials) other than the President and judges:
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
The majority of those who take the oath could care less what they are committing to. It has become just a ritual to them with no true meaning since they are not held accountable and therefore no consequences. For them it is just a farce and a final hurdle to get on with their ambitious plans of empowerment and monetary gain along with unchallenged social influence.
Do you think verbally expressing that oath has no real consequences? In any other nation it would be meaningless, but in the United States of America it is serious business.
Consider what took place the first presidential inauguration on April 30th, 1789, when George Washington was inaugurated on the balcony outside Federal Hall. Many Christian activities had been planned before the awaited event. The people of New York City were called to a time of prayer. The newspapers in the Capital City reported on the scheduled activities:
“The morning of the day on which our illustrious President will be invested with his office, the bells will ring at nine o’clock, when the people may go up to the house of God and in a solemn manner commit the new government, with its important train of consequences, to the holy protection and blessing of the Most high. An early hour is prudently fixed for this peculiar act of devotion and . . . is designed wholly for prayer.”[1]
That morning the Bible was opened at random; Washington placed his left hand upon the open Bible, raised his right, and then took the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution. Washington then bent over and kissed the Bible, reverently closed his eyes, and said, “So help me God!” What an exciting moment for those who witnessed the birth of a Christian Republic.
The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and the Bill of Rights have the Bible as their foundation; it is the only reliable worldview for mankind. The oath was, is and always will be based upon God’s Supremacy and Sovereignty over the affairs of men and nations. Washington knew this from personal experience and at the end of his presidency eight years later in 1796 in his “Farewell Address,” he reaffirmed that an oath was based upon God’s principles when he stated: “[W]here is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths . . . ?”[2]
From a constitutional viewpoint, the administering of a presidential oath was equal to a biblical obligation – this was something that was often acknowledged during presidential inaugurations following Washington’s. During his 1825 inauguration, John Quincy Adams declared:
“I appear, my fellow-citizens, in your presence and in that of Heaven to bind myself by the solemnities of religious obligation to the faithful performance of the duties allotted to me in the station to which I have been called.” [3]
Most American citizens have forgotten the awesome responsibility of electing individuals of good character to public service, and most public servants have taken advantage of that ignorance and irresponsibility and they have remade the nation into something totally opposite from the Founding Fathers’ vision of a great nation under God.
Obama has affirmed repeatedly he is a constitutional lawyer, whether spoken or written, he has declared that the Constitution must be changed. Like many others in his position, who have violated their oath of office not only have not supported and defended the Constitution of the United States but have betrayed it. I repeat, he is not alone neither is this issue about Democrats; Republicans and Independents have also violated their oath of office. This problem can be traced all the way back to the middle of the 19th Century. One thing is to ignore the Founders vision and another thing is to mock God by publicly admitting the need for His knowledge and wisdom to govern the affairs of men and not being sincere enough to do it.
Christian America cannot continue to mock God without being the recipients of His wrath. The future does not look good for this nation if it keeps going in the same direction. Christian America must heed the apostle’s warning to the Galatians, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
During the 20th Century and beginning of the 21st Century, God has demonstrated his abundant mercy with this nation by only sending warnings of worse things to come. The financial turmoil is not the main warning even though it should be more than sufficient to catch our attention. Open your eyes and ears so you can truly see and hear what is taking place. If you find it hard to understand then ask God to open your understanding to see and do your part to change the course of the nation with your participation as God leads. I continue to see a small window of opportunity to do our part so God can truly heal the land as we yield to Him.
Those who have said, “So help me God” not thinking of the consequences of their oath if they do not carry it out are not exempt from the guilt of bringing ruin to the nation and jeopardizing the well being of future generations.
In the meantime, keep in mind that November is just around the corner. It will be a time to decide what kind of a country you want, the land of the free or the land of big government in Socialist/Marxist style. The present administration and all its colleagues will not stop at anything to convince you that only government has the capacity to efficiently solve all the problems the nation is facing. They will use all the lies in the socialist/Marxist dictionary to convince you their way is the best way to create wealth never seen before in America, yeah right! Let’s see: the Ex Soviet Union, China, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, now Venezuela and others including socialist Europe are great models, uh? Big Lie!!!
We still have a voice and a choice. I hope and pray you will not be passive and a mere bystander as America is fundamentally transformed but willing and ready to do something to elect individuals that understand the full meaning of the oath of office which includes “So Help Me God!”
