It's Essential

And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul's message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
—Acts 17:11

Not long ago, I heard someone ask, "What if we treated our Bibles like we treat our cell phones?" That is an interesting question when you think of how important cell phones have become to us. It seems as though everyone has one now. I read an article about a cell phone for dogs, which hangs around the dog's neck and has a type of two-way speaker. So if your dog runs off, you can call him.

Phones have become so essential to us now. But do we treat our Bibles the same way? Acts 17:11 makes mention of the Bereans, who "searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth." They scrutinized the Scripture.

I bring this up because some people will say, "I have a new revelation from the Lord. You won't find it in the Bible. This just came to me." It didn't come from the Holy Spirit, however, because if it is true, then it is not new. And if it is new, then it is not true. We don't need new revelations. We need to take every so-called revelation, every teaching, and compare it to what the Scripture clearly says.

Everything you need to know about God is found in the pages of the Bible. We read in 2 Timothy 3:16 that "all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."

We need to realize how precious the Bible is. How precious is the Word of God to you? As it has been said, a Bible that is falling apart is usually a good indication of a life that isn't.
