"A New Song" MARCH 2020

Bible Study

Dear fellow worker of the Christian Worship Hour:

Do you ever get discouraged, downhearted and blue? If you are normal, you have probably felt that way
at one time or another. The Psalmist, felt that way when he wailed,

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul?
And why are thou disquieted in me?”
Psalm 42:5a

The writer is trying to figure out why he is so discouraged. And he needs to discover the cause because
God cannot use a discouraged worker. The reason God cannot use a discouraged worker is because He
has to work WITH the worker instead of working THROUGH the worker. So, why are Christians cast down?

 HEALTH REASONS MAY CAUSE US TO BECOME DISCOURAGED. A lingering illness that nags at us day and night may finally get to us. If that is the case, think of St. Paul who had a lingering illness, he called it a “thorn in the flesh.” He asked God to heal him, but God said “no”. How did Paul overcome the situation? He accepted it as from God and said, I “glory in my infirmities” (II Cor. 12:9). God’s grace enabled Paul to do it, and He will help us to do it as well so that, “the power of Christ may rest upon” us.
 KEEN DISAPPOINTMENTS MAY CAUSE US TO BECOME DISCOURAGED. A broken love affair, children who go wrong, troubles in the marriage of the home, sickness, you name it. Look at how terribly disappointed Elijah became, even wanted to die. (I Kings 19:4). Then is the time to look to Jesus who will always give strength and help. (Philippians 4:13).
 SHARP INNER CONFLICT MAY CAUSE US TO BECOME DISCOURAGED. St. Paul puts his finger on this problem when he cries out in despair, “O wretched man that I am”! Why? Because when he tried to do good, he did bad, and vice versa. (Romans 7:18-24). But the Apostle did find victory through Jesus Christ. (Romans 7:25). So don’t give up, we all live with the same problem—and the person who says he doesn’t, will lie about other things!
 TO BE MISUNDERSTOOD CAUSES US TO BECOME DISCOURAGED. We mean well, we have the highest aspirations and intentions—and someone puts a twist to it making what we meant to be well, something evil. Such actions have taken the heart out of many. Jesus lived His whole life that way. The Pharisees hated Him, would not give up until they killed him, because they totally missed the real intention of Jesus bringing them salvation. To be misunderstood can be a very trying time in the life of a believer. (Matt. 5:43-48).
 THE PSALMIST FOUND THE ANSWER TO DISCOURAGEMENT. Listen to the writer sing in praise when he found the way out of the dol-drums, “HOPE THOU IN GOD”. (Psalm 42:5). LOOK THOU TO GOD! Don’t look at those around you, but look to God. When Peter looked at the problems around him, he began to sink, but when He had his eye on Jesus, he walked on the water! Are you lonely today, “Look thou to God” for He has promised, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Heb. 13:5). Are you fretting over the turn of events in your life, rest on the promise of God, “We KNOW that all things work out for good to those who love the Lord.” (Rom. 8:28). Are you worried about the same future? Hope thou in God for He has promised those who trust in Him, “lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matt. 28:20).
If you want others to get this message of hope, many of them in despair, then pray hard and give as best you
can. We cannot carry on this ministry without you, and you cannot do it without us—so we are a TEAM!
We are in this together for the glory of God—knowing that will also lift spirits to a higher level. We’ll talk
about it when we get to heaven.

God bless you. I’ll be watching for you—teammate!

In our Savior’s Love,

Harold E. Salem, Pastor

Letters From Our Viewers

THANK YOU FOR WRITING…
When I was a small child like 5, I had a friend, Sarah and her brother on the school bus ask me, do you want to pray and one day I said yes. We bowed our heads and prayed. I remember crying with tears of joy. All I know I said out loud thank you for whatever you did. By the time I got home, I went running in my house and told my mom saying I was saved. My mother was worried I was too young. She told me no, I wasn’t saved and it caused me confusion. So I ask Jesus over and over again to save me. But listening to you has helped me to have peace about my salvation all because of Jesus. He is worthy. Thank you Jesus for saving a sinner and making me a new creation. God bless you all!
HUNTSVILLE, ARKANSAS

My daughter, who is 7 years old, has been watching the broadcast on Sundays and this morning 1-5-20, she opened her heart and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and is willing to live life by the Word of Jesus Christ.
GYPSUM, COLORADO

My husband and I have been watching you for three years. Please send me the New Song. I prayed and asked Jesus in my heart on November 19, 2019.
EDGEMONT, SOUTH DAKOTA

Greetings to you. I live near Durban (about 150 miles south) in a little town on the East coast of the Indian Ocean called Anerley/Southport. I am a pastor and I am trying to minister to folk as best I can. Thank you ever so much for the Christian Worship Hour. I thought you had forgotten me. Thanks for the lovely thoughts expressed in your paper. God bless you as your minister the gospel of Jesus Christ.
ANERLEY, SOUTH AFRICA

Dear Pastor Salem. Greetings from the UK. Thank you for the Word of God you share with us on Telly. Just to say we love and appreciate you. Warm regards.
LONDON, ENGLAND

Thank you for helping me save myself from the devil. Without your help showing me the way. I would still be a sinner. But the Christian Worship Hour kept calling back every Sunday morning. I thank God for all of you every night. I thank you for helping this sinner whose coat was black until Christian Worship Hour helped me turn black into the underneath color of lamb’s wool. With all my love. A sinner who all of the Christian Worship Hour helped change and SAVED.
DES MOINES, IOWA

My wife and I have been watching your program since November. We were going through the TV channels one morning trying to find a good Christian program. We found it and we have watched you every week since. Thank you for preaching Jesus so clearly and down to earth anyone can understand. I’m a Vietnam veteran and my wife is from Vietnam so could you please pray for the persecuted Christians in Vietnam. Could you please send us a copy of “Heart of a Shepherd”? Thank you.
VIPER, KENTUCKY

Thank you for your services on Sunday. Being disabled, I enjoy the fellowship! God bless all to spread the gospel!
BAREFOOT BEACH, FLORIDA

Your book of 16 sermons, we are about ½ way through. We read it before we go to bed. It is a blessing! It makes us think about what is important in life! With all the negative going on, this is a GOOD wakeup call! Thank you for GOD’S WORDS and giving it to us in simple language and with HEART. God bless your staff at Christian Worship Hour!

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
